Double Jaw Surgery

Double Jaw Surgery, also known as orthognathic surgery, is a surgical procedure that involves realigning the upper and lower jaws to correct dental and skeletal irregularities.Double jaw surgery is often recommended to address conditions such as an underbite, overbite, open bite, or significant asymmetry in the jaw structure.

This patient had: Maxillary Hypoplasia – a condition where the upper jaw fails to develop fully, resulting in an underdeveloped or recessed appearance; Mandibular Prognathism – also known as an underbite, is a condition where the lower jaw protrudes forward in relation to the upper jaw and A Class III Bite.

He was experiencing occlusion issues with his top and bottom teeth. His top teeth met his bottom teeth evenly causing chewing difficulties and temporomandibular joint discomfort. Dr. Movahed brought both his top and bottom jaw forward.

He had a class III bite – an abnormal bite pattern where the lower jaw protrudes forward causing an underbite. He also had some of the common symptoms related to retronagthia: malocclusion, facial asymmetry, breathing difficulties, speech problems, TMJ pain, chewing and swallowing issues, headaches, facial muscle fatigue, reduced self-confidence, and oral health problems.

She was struggling with an Anterior Open Bite and could not bite properly due to her teeth physically being unable to touch. This made eating and chewing very uncomfortable as well as negatively impacting her temporomandibular jaw joints.

Before Dr. Movahed’s surgery, she had an anterior open bite which made her lips unable to touch naturally due to the misalignment of her jaws and teeth.
