Malocclusion and loss of mandibular teeth can lead to difficulties in biting, chewing, and speaking. It may cause facial asymmetry, jaw pain, TMJ disorders, and affect overall oral health.
The patient had squamous cell carcinoma in his mandible, necessitating a radical neck dissection and mandibular resection, followed by mandibular reconstruction using a fibula graft. These treatments, combined with radiation therapy, resulted in malocclusion. To correct this, a total subapical osteotomy was performed, realigning the lower teeth and improving bite function.
